Dr. Tanja Busse

Moderator

Tanja Busse is a German journalist, author and moderator who specialises in agriculture, ecology and sustainability. She studied journalism and philosophy in the University of Dortmund, Bochum and at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa. Following a traineeship at WDR and completing her doctorate in 2000, she worked as an editor at WDR before becoming a freelance journalist in 2003. Her work has appeared in the „Süddeutsche Zeitung“, „Die Zeit“ and „Der Freitag“. 

Tanja is the author of several notable books, including „Die Wegwerfkuh“ (The Throw Away Cow) published by Blessing in 2015, and the „Das Sterben der anderen“ which deals with biodiversity loss, and in 2021 „Fleischkonsum. 33 Fragen und Antworten“ was published by Piper. 

She co-edited the essay collection „Welche Rechte braucht die Natur?“, which explores the rights of nature, with Frank Adloff. She also co-authored „Der Grund. Die neuen Konflikte um unsere Böden – und wie sie gelöst werden können“ with Christiane Grefe, which addresses the need to protect our soils.

Tanja regularly moderates public events and contributes to the national discourse on sustainability and environmental policy.

Susanne Fromwald

General Secretary Donau Soja Association

Susanne Fromwald has worked for DONAU SOJA since the very beginning in 2012. She
served as expert and advisor for standard development and stakeholder discussions. Later,
she became Director for Standard and Value Chain Development and in 2019, Executive
Director and Regional Director for Western Europe. Today she is working as Secretary
General of the Association and Project Manager for the international Protein Partnership
Programme. Additionally, she is a board member of the Collaborative Soy Initiative (CSI) and
Donau Soja representative in the European Non-GMO Association (ENGA) and the
European National Soy initiatives (ENSI).

Bertalan Kruppa

Market Analyst - Donau Soja Organisation

Bertalan has been working for Donau Soja for 10 years and supporting the organisation by preparing market reports, collecting market info and creating infographics about the non-GM soya sector. Bertalan is the editor and co-author of the Donau Soja Market Report which is the single monthly market report at a global level with a focus on the non-GM soya market. These duties enabled him to gain an in-depth knowledge of the global and European non-GM soya market.
Earlier, Bertalan broadened his professional experience at the European Commission and WUR Wageningen as well as working for the Hungarian agricultural ministry under the EU presidency. He studied agricultural economics at universities in the Netherlands and Hungary.

Emese van Maanen

Managing Director ProTerra Foundation

Emese van Maanen is the managing director of the ProTerra Foundation. She has a strong background in the international agricultural sector, having developed and led responsible raw material procurement, CSR and sustainability for large Europe-based agricultural cooperatives whilst simultaneously serving on the Boards of several standard organizations. 

Emese is an agricultural engineer with additional university degrees in agricultural- and animal sciences, water management, food safety and an advanced federal diploma as Foreign Trade Specialist. She also obtained a Doctor of Business Administration degree.

Daniele Marcomin

CEO Agriholism & Consultant Oleificio San Giorgio

Daniele Marcomin is an experienced consultant with over two decades of work in the agri-food industry. He has developed specialised expertise in the edible beans sector, Non-GMO soybean crushing and trading. His work also includes in-depth market analysis with a focus on Non-GMO and organic supply chains. Daniele supports clients by providing strategic insights across the agricultural value chain, promoting sustainable, traceable, and responsible sourcing practices.

Maxime Montserret

Senior Trader - Bunge

Maxime Montserret grew up on a farm in the south-west of France and holds a Master’s degree in Agriculture. He joined Bunge 10 years ago in France and participated in the company’s graduate trading programme in the United States and Canada. Maxime then began his trading career in Barcelona on the SBM import desk. Following that, he moved to the crush desk, where he managed soybean sourcing and crush management for the European soy crushing business. He also coordinates the Non-GM Soy programme for the European crush franchise.

Rene van der Poel

General Manager - ADM Straubing

René van der Poel has over 40 years’ experience in the oil mill industry and has been a key figure in advancing sustainable, GMO-free supply chains in Europe. In his role as General Manager at ADM, one of the world’s leading nutrition companies, he offers valuable insights into the operational and strategic aspects of sustainable sourcing.

At this year’s Non-GM Soy Conference, René will share his perspective on the practical realities behind sustainability commitments and the long-term vision needed to make them credible.

Dr. Christoph Rathmann

Government Affairs & Sustainability Manager - Bunge

Dr. Christoph Rathmann was born and raised on a farm in Schleswig-Holstein. He pursued a degree in Agricultural Sciences with a focus on Agricultural Economics in Kiel and Uppsala, completing his PhD in 2007. Since then, he has held various roles at Bunge, including Trading Manager for Proteins in Southeast Asia, based in Singapore, and Senior Proteins Trader specialising in soybean trade in Germany and Northern Europe. Since 2019, Dr. Rathmann has served as Government Affairs & Sustainability Manager. He is also a board member and Chair of the Government Affairs & Sustainability at OVID, the German Oilseed Industry Association.

Will Schreiber

Co-founder & Director / Representative 3Keel Group Ltd / Retail Soy Group

Will has been the Representative of the Retail Soy Group since 2019 to address a sector-wide gap in the demand for sustainably produced soya. He is also a Founding Director at 3Keel Group Limited where he developed the sustainable commodities business unit. In his career spanning nearly two decades he has advised business, governments and the third sector on sustainability issues while being the key advisor for some of the world’s biggest businesses and financial institutions on building low impact, resilient supply chains and portfolios. In 2017 he launched 3Keel Data Services to support deforestation and sustainable commodity mapping within indirect downstream supply chains for soy and palm oil.

Leif Kjetil Skjæveland

Manager of Sustainability and Public Affairs - Skretting

Leif Kjetil Skjæveland is Skretting’s manager for sustainability in Norway and is part of the official steering group for the Norwegian government’s mission on sustainable feed. He works extensively with raw material challenges in both the supplier and retail sectors, as well as Skretting’s projects involving novel and circular ingredients. Skjæveland has ten years in the aquaculture industry with a background from scientific writing, journalism sustainability and marketing & branding.
